Today’s story was about a Civil War coin from 1862. The interesting thing about this coin is that it was stamped over the 1861 die. Therefore it is an overdate. An overdate coin can be defined as a coin where the date or part of the date has been punched into a finished working die that already has the older date. Most of the time it is from the year before. In this case, it is 1862 that is punched into an 1861 die.
NGC has only graded 22 of these in AU58 and there are only 7 in higher grades.
We are offering this coin out at $5,675 today right here.
Thanks for watching and enjoy.
