1812 $5 Capped Bust Half Eagle
The first subtype if the Capped Bust Half Eagle was struck from 1807-1812, with this example being from the final year of the type 1. There are 399,013 total Capped Bust Left Type 1 Examples minted from 1807 to 1812. Although there were a few hundred thousand minted, due to heavy melting in later years, only about %1 percent of the issue survived. We can thank the early numismatist who protected this coin from a melted fate, while we admire its very intact luster. Her strike is relatively impressive, her gold a mature yellow, and with no problems to speak of, this fabulous five would add significant value to any serious collection.
